ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's soccer team played Carleton College to a 1-1 draw in a MIAC game Wednesday evening at Macalester Stadium. It was the fifth overtime game in nine games this season for the Scots, who are now 4-3-2 overall and 1-2-2 in the conference. The Knights are now 5-3-2, 1-2-2 MIAC.
Macalester struck early in the first half, as first year forward
Kate Bond (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) received a pass from sophomore midfielder
Molly Adams (Concord, Mass./Concord Carlisle) down the right side. Bond dribbled past her defender and beat the Carleton goalkeeper with a shot from 15 yards out for a 1-0 lead just 6:05 into the game.
The Scots held the lead until the 87th minute, when Madeline Topf chipped a loose ball from 20 yards out over senior goalkeeper
Rachel Wilson-King (Tucson, Ariz./St. Gregory College Prep School) and into the top of the goal to tie the score at 1-1. Carleton had an excellent scoring opportunity just before the end of the first overtime period, as Annika Martensson sent a shot towards the upper right corner of the Macalester goal. But Wilson-King was there to tip the ball over the crossbar and keep the game tied.
The teams also were even in the shots column, with both squads taking 12 shots. Wilson-King made six saves for the Scots, while Anna Roethler recorded two saves.
Macalester continues MIAC play on Saturday, Oct. 7 with a game at St. Olaf College, beginning at 3:30 p.m. in Northfield, Minn.
