Volleyball: Macalester Wins Both at North Central University Invite

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team beat North Central University and Emmaus Bible College. The Scots are now 7-16 on the season.
 
In the first match the Scots beat North Central 3-2 and Emmaus 3-1.  In the non-conference invite against North Central, the Scots lost their first two sets to come back and win the last three. Senior outside hitters Clara Baumann (Wausau, Wis./Wausau East) and India Medaris (Napa, Calif./Justin Siena) led the Scots in offense with 21 and 17 kills respectively. Sophomore Grace Brickner (Bronx, N.Y./Fieldston) had 11 kills. Baumann and first year Abrielle Dillon (Brown Deer, Wis./ University School of Milwaukee) had 23 and 16 digs.
 
Junior Sofi Ascencio (Oakland, Calif./Holy Names) had 33 assists in the first game and was followed by junior Emily Bowler (South Salem, N.Y./John Jay) assisted 19 times.
 
In the second game the Scots beat Emmaus 3-1. The second match was a close win for the Scots and Baumann tallied 19 kills, Medaris tallied 19 kills and Brickner tallied 11 kills. Ascencio added 28 more assists to her day. Defensively, Baumann had 20 digs and Pickford had 15.
 
Baumann now has 290 kills on the season, second in the MIAC, and Medaris has 281 kills, third in the MIAC.

Next up for Macalester is a conference away match against Bethel University on Oct. 18, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in St. Paul, Minn.
