NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Macalester College water polo team began play at the Collegiate Water Polo Association Conference Tournament on Saturday, losing to host Connecticut College, 16-9, and to Monmouth College, 11-4 at the Jane Caldwell Lott Natatorium. The Scots are now 3-20 on the season.
In the day's first game, Macalester tied the score at 5-5 in the second quarter with back-to-back goals from sophomore
Hannah Gray (Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena) and first year
Lucille Moran (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron). Connecticut College responded by scoring the next six goals for an 11-5 lead, and the Scots never came closer than five goals the rest of the way. Gray, who was named to the CWPA Division III All-Conference second team yesterday, finished the game with five goals. First year
Natalie Hoffman (Seattle, Wash./Inglemoor) scored two goals, while senior
Zexin Nai (Singapore/Hwa Chong) also found the net.
Against Monmouth, the Scots were out-scored, 9-2 after the first quarter to suffer their second loss on the day. Hoffman scored twice, while Gray and Moran scored once each.
