ERIE, Pa. – The Macalester College water polo team began play at the Collegiate Water Polo Association Regional on Friday, falling to host Penn State-Behrend, 9-6 and to Connecticut College, 13-8 at the Junker Center Pool. The Scots are now 2-16 on the season.
In the day's first game, Macalester pulled to within two, 7-5 following a goal by first year
Lucille Moran (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) in the fourth quarter. But PSU-Behrend answered with back-to-back goals down the stretch to clinch the win. Moran finished with three goals, while sophomore
Hannah Gray (Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena) scored twice and senior
Zexin Nai (Singapore/Hwa Chong) scored once.
Against Connecticut College, the Scots trailed 8-6 at halftime, and were out-scored, 5-2 over the final two quarters. Moran, Gray and first year
Yamila Blake-Lazu (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) each found the net twice, while sophomore
Brooke Finney (Grand Rapids, Mich./Jenison) and first year
Natalie Hoffman (Seattle, Wash./Inglemoor) scored a goal apiece.
The Scots continue play at the CWPA Regional on Saturday, Apr. 2 with matches against Grove City College and Washington and Jefferson in Erie, Pa.
