PASADENA, Calif. – The Macalester College water polo team fell to Caltech and Connecticut College in a pair of close matches Saturday morning at Caltech's Braun Pool. The Scots are now 2-13 on the season.
In the day's first game, the host Beavers took a 7-4 lead through two quarters and held on for a 10-7 victory over the Scots. First year
Lucille Moran (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) scored all four of Macalester's first-half goals and added a fifth in the fourth quarter. Senior
Zexin Nai (Singapore/Hwa Chong) and sophomore
Hannah Gray (Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena) also scored in the fourth quarter.
Against Connecticut College, Macalester fell behind 8-3 after two quarters before mounting a comeback. Moran and Gray each score two goals to help bring the Scots to within one, 9-8 with five minutes remaining. After a Connecticut College goal, sophomore
Brooke Finney (Grand Rapids, Mich./Jenison) found the net with 38 seconds left to make the score 10-9. But Macalester ran out of time, falling for the second time on the day. Moran ended up with three goals, while Gray, Finney and first year
Natalie Hoffman (Seattle, Wash./Inglemoor) scored two goals apiece.

Emma Swanson (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti) had a strong game in goal, making two penalty blocks during the Scots' comeback attempt.
Macalester closes out its California trip with a match at Whittier College on Sunday, Mar. 20 in Whittier, Calif.
