REDLANDS, Calif. – The Macalester College water polo team lost a pair of matches to Virginia Military Institute and the University of Redlands Friday night at Redlands' Thompson Aquatics Center. The Scots drop to 2-11 on the season.
Against VMI, the Keydets outscored Macalester, 13-4 over the first two quarters en route to a 20-5 victory. The Scots' goals were scored by seniors
Elizabeth Harte (Moorpark, Calif./Moorpark) and
Zexin Nai (Singapore/Hwa Chong), sophomores
Hannah Gray (Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena) and
Brooke Finney (Grand Rapids, Mich./Jenison), and first year
Lucille Moran (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron).
In the match against Redlands, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 7-0 lead by halftime and an 11-4 edge after the third quarter. Macalester blanked Redlands in the fourth quarter, with first year
Natalie Hoffman (Seattle, Wash./Inglemoor) scoring three of the Scots' four goals in the period. The late surge was not enough to prevent an 11-8 defeat. Hoffman finished with four goals, while Moran scored three goals and Nai added one for Macalester.
Macalester will play two matches at Caltech on Saturday, Mar. 19 in Pasadena, Calif.
