KENOSHA, Wis. – The Macalester College water polo team dropped three matches on the final day of the Carthage Tournament on a busy Saturday in Kenosha. The Scots, who fell to Grove City, Penn State-Behrend and Carthage, are now 2-7 on the season.
Against Grove City, Macalester fell behind, 9-1 before getting six goals from five different players to make the score 10-7 after three quarters. The deficit proved too much to overcome, as Grove City held on for a 12-8 win. First year
Lucille Moran (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) scored four goals, while senior
Zexin Nai (Singapore/Hwa Chong), sophomores
Hannah Gray (Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena) and
Brooke Finney (Grand Rapids, Mich./Jenison) and first year
Natalie Hoffman (Seattle, Wash./Inglemoor) each found the net once.
The Scots' offense struggled in the second match against Penn State-Behrend, scoring just three times in 23 shot attempts to fall, 7-3. Moran had two of the goals and Nai scored once.
Macalester concluded play against the host Crusaders and lost, 12-6. The Scots surrendered six goals in the second quarter and never recovered in their third match of the day and fifth match in 30 hours. Moran scored three times, Gray scored twice and senior
Elizabeth Harte (Moorpark, Calif./Moorpark) scored once.
Macalester returns to action on Monday, Mar. 14 with a match at Chapman University in Orange, Calif.
