ST. PAUL, Minn. – In a historic night for Macalester College men's basketball, seniors

The Scots trailed by as many as 10 points in the first half before closing out the period with a 10-4 run to cut the deficit to one, 38-37 at the break. Back-to-back threes by Kilgour and sophomore guard
Michael Gutierrez (Stillwater, Minn./St. Croix Prep Academy) to start the second half gave Macalester its first lead since the 12:37 mark of the first half. Ahead 45-42 with 17 minutes left, the Scots took control with a 19-4 run for a 64-46 bulge with 12:22 to play. Gutierrez had nine points in the spree. The Rams (0-1) came within 12 points late, only to have Macalester pull away for the season-opening win.
The Scots ended up shooting 53.8 percent from the field after halftime while out-rebounding North Central, 44-30 for the game. Gutierrez tallied a game-high 27 points, making 12-of-15 from the free throw line and three three-pointers. Ismail finished with 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field. He added 11 rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Kilgour ended up with 11 points and four steals, junior guard
Brett Olson (New London, Minn./New London-Spicer) added 12 points and senior guard
