ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer team dropped a MIAC game to Carleton, 1-0 Saturday night at Macalester Stadium. With the loss, the Scots are now 10-3-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the conference, while the Knights improve to 7-3-3, 3-2-2 MIAC.
In the 34th minute, a long throw-in by Kohl Sparrman was headed by KC Onuoha to Alex Griese. Griese scored from six yards out to put Carleton on top, 1-0. Macalester created several chances in the second half but were unable to score the equalizer. Seniors
Charlie Spurr (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) and
Austin Burrows (Roseville, Calif./Jesuit), and junior
Danny Baumann (Waterford, Wis./Muskego) each had good opportunities in the final 10 minutes of the game.
The Scots controlled play for most of the game, building an 18-6 advantage in shots. Senior goalkeeper
Zeke Vainer (Melrose, Mass./Melrose) recorded three saves in goal for Macalester, while Carleton's Brandon Hilliard made four saves for the shutout.
The Scots continue MIAC play on Saturday, Oct. 22 at Augsburg. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Minneapolis, Minn.
