Women’s Basketball: Macalester Drops MIAC Game to Concordia, 63-50

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's basketball team was outscored, 17-9 in the fourth quarter in a MIAC loss to Concordia College Saturday afternoon in the Leonard Center. The Scots are now 6-8 overall and 2-6 in the conference following the loss, while the Cobbers improve to 9-6, 5-3 MIAC.

Macalester jumped out to a 13-9 lead in the first quarter before Concordia regained the advantage late in the second. The Cobbers entered the half up by one (27-26) despite the Scots' impressive three-point shooting. Macalester connected on five of 11 shots from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes of play.

Both teams continued to battle after the half, but Concordia slowly edged their way to victory by shooting over 42% from the field and 57% from three-point range. The Cobbers capitalized on a solid fourth quarter where they held Macalester to just nine points.

Sophomore center Regan Fruh (Helena, Mont. / Helena) led the Scots offensively with 14 points on five of 11 shooting. Leah Gray (San Rafael, Calif. / Branson School) and Lauren Clamage (Lake Forest, Ill. / Lake Forest Academy) each added 12 points. Gray pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and Clamage knocked down four shots from beyond the arc.

Vivi Gregorich (Boulder, Colo. / Boulder) and Erin Murray (Sparta, Wis. / Sparta) each dished out three assists and added six points.

Greta Walsh and Olivia Johnson led Concordia College, each scoring 17 points.

Macalester will return to action on Monday, Jan. 18 when they host Northland College in their final non-conference game. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Leonard Center. Northland enters the contest with a 6-6 overall record.
