SHERMAN, TEXAS – Macalester volleyball wrapped up weekend action at the Austin College Tournament after defeating Centenary College 3-1 and Schreiner University 3-0 today.
The Scots return from Texas with a 5-1 overall record, Macalester's best start since the 2010 season.
As the Scots took on Centenary in Saturday morning tournament play, they took the first two sets 25-16 and 25-23 before falling in set three 22-25. The Scots bounced back, sliding to a quick victory with a 25-15 set-four win.
Brooke Hunter (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) led the way offensively for the Scots, posting 14 kills and a .522 hitting percentage.
Arianna Hesterberg (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor) displayed an overall strong performance in the match, finishing with nine kills, six aces and 30 assists in the four-set match.
Cora Trout finished with a season-high 21 digs.
As Macalester took on Schreiner in the second contest of the day, the Scots took down the Mountaineers in straight sets, winning 26-24, 25-17 and 26-24.
The Scots finished with a .299 hitting percentage; Schreiner hit just .096 in the match.
Sophomore middle hitter
Regan Fruh (Helena, Mont./Helena) led with 11 kills.
India Medaris (Napa, Calif./Justin Siena) added 10 kills.
Following completion of the tournament, Austin College released the All-Tournament Team. Sophomore
Clara Baumann (Wausau, Wis./Wausa East) landed on the list of eight individuals to receive the honor. Baumann finished the tournament with 26 kills, six service aces, 41 digs and seven blocks.
Hesterberg dished out 35 assists and collected eight digs. Trout added 15 digs for the Scots.
Macalester will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 8 as they travel to North Central University for a non-conference match-up slated for 7 p.m.
