MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team opened up the 2015 MIAC season as they traveled to Concordia College, falling to the Cobbers in four sets to end a seven-match winning streak.
The Scots fall to 10-2 overall this season and 0-1 in the MIAC. The Cobbers, who were picked to finish 8th in the MIAC preseason poll, improve to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in conference action.
Macalester dropped the first two sets 25-19 and 25-22, before battling back to win the third set 25-17. The Cobbers didn't back down, securing a 25-18 set four victory to win the match.
Clara Baumann (Wausau, Wis./Wausau East) led the Scots offensively with 14 kills on the night. Baumann added three aces and 14 digs to her stat line, securing her fourth double-double of the season and her third consecutive.
Regan Fruh (Helena, Mont./Helena) led the Scots with five blocks. Macalester finished with 10 in the match to the Cobbers' nine.
Arianna Hesterberg (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor) dished out 26 assists.
Cora Trout (Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge), who collected her 1,000th career dig on Sunday, picked up 16 digs in the match.
Macalester will take the weekend off before returning to action on Monday, Sept. 16 for a non-conference match at Martin Luther College.
