GROVE CITY, Pa. --Â The tournament hosts scored eight second-half goals to break open a two-goal game and cruise to a 14-6 win over Macalester in a quarterfinal game of the Collegiate Water Polo Division III Championship.
Grove City led on three occasions in the first half by three goals but the Scots would not let the game get away from them, closing to within 6-4 at haltime.
However, the Woveriners scored the first three goals of the second half to take a 9-4 lead and never looked back as the tournament's fifth seed defeated the fourth-seeded Scots for the first time in three meetings this season.
Zexin Nai and
Hannah Gray each scored twice to lead Macalester offensively while
Anya Phillips made seven saves in goal.
The Scots now moved into the consolation semifinals, where they will face eighth-seeded Monmouth, Saturday, in a 9 a.m. EDT game.
