NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Macalester opened the day with an 11-0 loss to Carthage but rebounded with a 12-2 win over Monmouth and a 7-3 win over Penn State-Behrend to go 2-1 on the first day of the Collegiate Water Polo Association East Round Robin event at Connecticut College.

Just one week after downing the Lady Reds, 8-7, the Scots saw a five-goal third quarter lead to an 11-goal rout as Carthage led 3-0 at half before running away with the game in the second half.

Anya Phillips made nine saves in the game for Macalester.

In their afternoon match, the Scots jumped out to a 5-0 first-quarter lead, getting four goals from Sarah Shoemaker, and coasted to the 12-2 win. Shoemaker finished with five goals while Hannah Currens scored twice to pace the offense.

In the final game of the day, Macalester avenged Saturday's 6-5 loss to Penn State-Behrend with a 7-3 victory.

Tomorrow, the Scots have two games on the schedule, facing Washington and Jefferson at 10:15 a.m. EDT before taking on Grove City at 4:30 p.m.
