Water Polo: Macalester heads east for CWPA event

Scots scheduled for seven games at Connecticut College this weekend.

Macalester wraps up the regular season this weekend as it takes part in the Collegiate Water Polo Association East Round Robin tournament, hosted by Connecticut College, in New London, Conn.
 
The Scots are slated for three games, Friday, beginning at 10:15 a.m. EDT versus Carthage. They will follow that with a 3:15 p.m. game versus Monmouth and end the day with a 7 p.m. meeting with Penn State-Behrend.
 
Saturday, Macalester is scheduled for a pair of games, opening the day with another 10:15 a.m. contest, versus Washington and Jefferson. The Scots will then take on Grove City beginning at 4:30 p.m.
 
Sunday, Macalester will wrap up play with a pair of games as the Scots take on Utica at 10:15 a.m. and host Connecticut College at 12:45 p.m. The latter game will be streamed live at http://firstteambroadcasting.com/.

LOOKING BACK
Macalester posted a 4-3 record this past weekend at the CWPA West Round Robin in Monmouth, Ill.
 
After dropping their tourney opener, 16-6 to Connecticut College, the Scots won four consecutive games, rounding out the opening day with a 13-11 win over Grove City and an 8-7 win over Carthage, which ended Macalester's 2014 season by handing the Scots a six-overtime defeat.
 
Saturday, Macalester opened the day with a 7-3 win over Utica and followed up with a 16-5 win over host Monmouth before dropping a 6-5 decision to Penn State-Behrend and, Sunday, the Scots were handed a 19-7 loss by Washington and Jefferson.
 
SHE'S THE BOSS
Jennie Charlesworth is in her seventh season as head water polo coach and fourth as Aquatics Coordinator at Macalester College, where she also serves as an a assistant coach with the swimming and diving programs.
 
During Charlesworth's seven seasons at Macalester, she has posted a record of 59-98.

Charlesworth was named coach of the tournament at the 2011 CWPA Division III women's water polo tournament and, as the head men's club coach, has earned CWPA Heartland Division coach of the year honors in 2010, 2012, 2013, and 2014.

A 2001 graduate of San Jose State University, where she played for the fifth-ranked NCAA Division I program in the nation. Charlesworth swam for San Jose State for one season before concentrating on water polo for her final three collegiate seasons.

Charlesworth was formerly the head girls' water polo coach and swimming coach at St. Joseph High School in Lakewood, Calif., a position she held for seven years, and was also employed as Aquatics Specialist for the city of Anaheim, Calif., before being hired at Macalester.

She began her polo and swimming coaching career, in 2001, as head coach for the boy's program at St. John Bosco High School after graduation from SJSU.

Macalester will have a week off before taking part in the CWPA Division III Championship, April 10-11, hosted by Grove City College in Grove City, Pa.
