MONMOUTH, Ill. --Â Macalester won its first two matches of the day to extend its winning streak to four games but Penn-State Behrend halted the streak in the day's final game as the Scots won two of three matches, for the second consecutive day, at the College Water Polo Association West Round Robin Tournament.
Macalester picked up a 7-3 win over Utica in the morning to start the day.
Sarah Shoemaker scored three goals to lead the way while
Brooke Finney,
Zexin Nai,
Adrienne Burgin and
Hannah Bonestroo each collected single goals in the victory as the Scots scored in the game's first minute and led the rest of the way.
The afternoon match versus host Monmouth saw Macalester take a 7-0 lead and the Scots never looked back as both Burgin and Shoemaker scored three first-quarter goals. Shoemaker went onto finish with five goals for the game while Burgin added four. Bonestroo and
Hannah Gray each scored twice while Nai,
Hannah Currens and
Emma Swanson contributed single goals to the victory.
Saturday's night game saw the Scots leading 3-1 midway through the opening quarter but a goal by PSU-Behrend's Kaia Stegman with one second remaining in the first half got the Lions back to even to end the first half.
Neither team was able to score in the third quarter but Maryn Horn scored twice in the opening 42 seconds for PSUB. Nai responded just 11 seconds after the Lions took the 6-4 lead but Macalester could not get the equalizer in the game's final 6:07.
Nai scored three times in the game to lead the Scots while Shoemaker and Gray also added goals.
Macalester concluded play in the CWPA West Round Robin when it faces Washington and Jefferson in a 2:20 p.m. contest.
