CLERMONT, Fla. – Macalester College softball competed in their fourth day of play at the NTC Spring Games on Thursday. The Scots defeated Plattsburgh State in an 8-4 finish sparked by
Abby Cox's first career grand slam and a three for four (with three doubles), performance by
Nikki Caicedo.
In game two of the day, Macalester took on Fredonia, but was halted in the bottom of the third inning due to rain and all games were called off for the night.
With today's win, Macalester improves to 7-4 overall, 3-4 at the Spring Games.
Game One: Macalester 8, Plattsburgh State 4 In Macalester's first game of the day, Plattsburgh State got off to a quick start, crossing the plate for one run in the bottom of the first.
The Scots got things going in the top of the third, scoring six runs on four hits. With the bases loaded, senior shortstop
Saraswati Wilson roped an RBI single through the left side to score Caicedo.
Abby Cox stepped up to the plate and drilled a grand slam over the left field fence to give Macalester a 6-1 lead.
Miranda Stokes added a homerun of her own in the top of the fourth to bump the lead to 7-1. This marked Stokes' fifth homerun of the season.
The Cardinals of Plattsburgh added one more run in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the fifth.
Macalester scored their eighth and final run in the top of six as
Abby Cox singled to center for her fifth RBI of the game.
First Year
Logan Tootle recorded her first start on the mound this season, throwing seven complete innings, giving up six hits and just two earned runs. Tootle improves to 2-0 on the bump this season.
Caicedo led the team with three hits; Wilson and Cox each collected two.

Macalester will return to action at the Spring Games on Friday, March 20, as they take on Amherst and Ripon in their final games of the tournament scheduled for 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
