PASADENA, Calif. --Â Macalester suffered a 16-0 loss to Virginia Military Institute in the morning before rebounding for its first win of the season, an 18-5 victory over Cal Tech.
After scoring a pair of goals early in the first quarter, VMI broke open the game with a six-goal second quarter, scoring four of those goals in a span of two minutes, 37 seconds in the opening three minutes.
The afternoon game saw the Scots score seven times in first quarter before adding another six goals in the second.
Hannah Gray scored four goal, including three in thre first quarter.
Adrienne Burgin also scored three goals while
Liz Kelleher,
Zexin Nai,
Sarah Shoemaker and
Madeline Spolin each scored a pair of goals.
Macalester will take on Chapman University in Orange, Calif., tomorrow at 4 p.m. before having an off day. The Scots will finish their California trip, Wednesday, with a 10 a.m. match at Whittier College.
