RIVERSIDE, Calif. --Â Macalester ended the Lancer Invitational with a 16-2 loss to host California Baptist before dropping their final game, 12-6, to Redlands.
Cal Baptist jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the game's first five minutes, 40 seconds, and the Scots could never recover.
Sarah Shoemaker scored both goals for the Scots. Defensively,
Anya Phillips made nine saves and recorded five stolen balls while
Hannah Gray had three steals.
Macalester held a pair of leads over Redlands early in the game.
Adrienne Burgin scored with nine seconds remaining in the first quarter and scored again 46 seconds into the second quarter to give the Scots a 2-1 lead.
After the Bulldogs tied the game at 1:41 of the second quarter,
Zexin Nai put Macalester back on top just 16 seconds later. However, Redlands would score the game's next nine goals before
Hannah Gray halted the Bulldogs' rally with a goal 17 seconds into the fourth quarter.
Burgin went onto complete her hat trick with 5:40 to play in the game and, after Redlands made it a 12-5 game,
Hannah Bonestroo scored with 27 seconds to play to finish the scoring.
Phillips recorded 11 saves in the game to go with three steals and an assist. Burgin added four steals to her three-goal outing and both Nai and Gray had an assist to go with their goals.
Macalester continues its California road trip with two games on Sunday, both of which will be held at Cal Tech. The Scots open the day with an 11 a.m. MDT game versus Virginia Military Institute before taking on Cal Tech at 1 p.m.
