MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Macalester College women's basketball team beat North Central University, 62-46 in the season-opener Tuesday night on the road. The win marked the third straight year the Scots have won their first game of the season.
The Scots finished the first quarter up by just two points (13-11), but increased the lead in the second quarter after holding the Rams to nine points and scoring 20 themselves. Heading into the half with a 13-point advantage, Macalester led by as much as 23 with two minutes to go in the third quarter. North Central made a comeback attempt late in the fourth, captilazing on Macalester fouls and second chance points, but the Scots were able to put an end to the run.
Four Macalester players finished in double-digit scoring, led by sophomore
Leah Gray (San Rafael, Calif. / Branson School) who went six of 10 from the field to score a team-high 14 points. Sophomore
Vivi Gregorich (Boulder, Colo. / Boulder) and junior
Lauren Clamage (Lake Forest, Ill. / Lake Forest Academy) each added 11 points for the Scots. Gregorich hit three shots from beyond the arc and dished out four assists. Clamage went two for two from the three and grabbed three steals.
Sophomore
Regan Fruh (Helena, Mont. / Helena) was the fourth Scot to tally double-digit points, going five of 10 from the field to score 10 points. Junior
Park Masterson (Poway, Calif. / Poway) led the rebounding efforts, pulling down 10 boards and adding eight points.
The Rams were led by Jaime High with 18 points and 14 rebounds.
Macalester returns to action on Thursday, Nov. 19 with a home game against Luther College. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. in the Leonard Center.
