GALESBURG, Ill. – Senior running back
Zandy Stowell (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls) ran for three touchdowns as the Macalester football team beat Knox College, 46-19 Saturday afternoon at the Knosher Bowl. The road victory improves the Scots' record on the season to 2-2, while the Prairie Fire drops to 2-2.
Knox struck first with a four-yard touchdown pass from Matt McCaffrey to Mathew Hemmingsen for a 7-0 lead. After Macalester stopped Knox twice on the two yard line, the Scots put together a 98-yard drive that culminated in a 20-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback

The Prairie Fire answered early in the second quarter, as McCaffrey hit Ilir Emini for a 15-yard touchdown pass. The Scots blocked the extra point attempt, making the score 13-6 Knox. Later in the quarter, sophomore linebacker
Elliot Tanin (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) intercepted McCaffrey and returned the ball 36 yards to the Knox four yard line. Stowell eventually ran it in from three yards out to tie the score at 13-13.
Two minutes before halftime, junior safety
Forest Redlin (Tempe, Ariz./Tempe Preparatory Academy) picked off a pass at the Knox 30 and returned it to the one yard line. Stowell did the honors again to send the Scots into halftime with a 19-13 lead.
Macalester started the second half with the ball and first year quarterback
Alec Beatty (Topeka, Kan./Topeka) scampered 48 yards for a touchdown to give the Scots a 25-13 edge. Special teams pitched in again for Macalester with a blocked punt by senior
Bradley Cox (Sedona, Ariz./Red Rock), who fell on the ball in the end zone for a touchdown. The Prairie Fire took advantage of a dropped punt, answering with a 61-yard drive capped by a seven-yard touchdown run from Jordan Zanger.
On the Scots' next possession, Stowell ran for a 48-yard touchdown and Beatty ran in the two-point conversion to make the score 40-19. The ensuing kickoff was fumbled, with senior linebacker
Fabian Arrizon (Hayward, Calif./Mount Eden) forcing the miscue and sophomore linebacker
Liam Peebles (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North) running it in for a 46-19 lead.
Stowell ran nine times for 82 yards and Beatty had 56 yards on five carries as the Scots rushed for 235 yards as a team. Adams was 4-for-12 for 57 yards and a touchdown. Redlin led the defense with 11 total tackles and sophomore linebacker
A.J. Imholte (Madison, Wis./Edgewood) had 10 tackles. Senior defensive tackle
Zach Hauser (Port Washington, Wis.) added seven tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss. McCaffrey led Knox with 79 yards rushing and 218 yards passing.
Macalester hosts Ripon College in the first Midwest Conference North Division game of the season. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10 at Macalester Stadium.
