ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Macalester College volleyball team hosted St. Catherine University in a MIAC Wednesday evening match-up. The two teams entered the night holding very similar records. The Wildcats came out on top, ending the Scots third set run with a final four-set victory.
The Scots fall to 14-12 overall and 1-7 in conference play. St. Kate's improved to 15-10 overall and 3-6 in the MIAC. Set scores for the match ended at: 25-15, 25-16, 23-25 and 25-15.
The Wildcats started set three with a 17-7 lead before Macalester made a remarkable comeback.
Kasey McMaster served six straight points as the Scots finally took the lead at 19-18. They carried that momentum to win the set, but St. Kate's put an end to the run with a fourth set victory.
Clara Baumann and
Brooke Hunter led the way offensively for Macalester finishing with 11 kills each.
India Medaris finished with seven. Baumann also added 13 digs to her stat line.
Arianna Hesterberg and
Kasey McMaster shared the setting duties. McMaster dished out 16 assists and Hesterberg added 12.
Cora Trout led the way defensively with 18 digs.
Hoai-Nam Bui added 10.
The Wildcats finished with 50 kills and a .207 hitting percentage. Macalester collected 35 kills and hit just .065.
Megan Lindenfeiser led the way for St. Kate's with 11 kills and 13 digs.
Macalester will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 24 as they host St. Mary's University in a 3 p.m. match at the Leonard Center. Saturday will serve as Senior Day for the Scots as six seniors will be honored prior to the first serve.
