ST. PAUL, Minn. – A goal by senior midfielder
Lily Jilk (River Falls, Wis./Shattuck-St. Mary's) in the 79th minute lifted the Macalester College women's soccer team past Luther, 1-0 in a non-conference game Tuesday night at Macalester Stadium. The Scots improve to 7-2-4 with the win, while the Norse, who are ranked fifth in the latest NSCAA North Region rankings, fall to 12-3.
The game was close and competitive throughout, with both teams battling for an advantage. With under 12 minutes left in regulation, sophomore
Kara Komoto (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake) collected a rebound to the right of the goal and passed to Jilk near the top of the penalty area. Jilk placed a shot over goalkeeper Lauren Thormodsgard that dipped under the crossbar for the game's only goal. The win is the Scots' third in a row and extends their streak without a loss to eight games. Luther fell for the second straight game following a 12-game winning streak.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Rachel Wilson-King (Tucson, Ariz./St. Gregory College Prep) made five saves in goal for Macalester for the shutout. Thormodsgard had two saves, as the Scots held a slim 11-10 edge in shots.
Macalester resumes MIAC action on Saturday, Oct. 24 with a home game against Augsburg. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. at Macalester Stadium.
