NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- The Macalester College volleyball team competed at Carleton College in Friday night MIAC play. The Scots battled hard with the Knights, falling in set one but coming back to win set two, 25-23. After dropping set three, Macalester took a 24-21 lead in the fourth before the Knights pulled off a remarkable comeback to close out the set and match with a 27-25 win.
With the loss, Macalester falls to 13-5 overall and 1-3 in MIAC play. Carleton improves to 10-6 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
Clara Baumann and
India Medaris led the way offensively for Macalester, each collecting 12 kills. The Scots couldn't find an answer for Carleton's Lucy Stevens, who finished with a match-high 20 kills.
Arianna Hesterberg dished out 31 assists in the match and
Cora Trout finished with 28 digs. Baumann,
Hoai-Nam Bui, Hesterberg and
Regan Fruh also collected double-digit dig totals as they came up with 15, 14, 12, and 10 respectively.
The Knights edged the Scots in almost every category statistically, hitting nearly .100 percentage points higher and finishing with 57 kills to the Scots' 41. Macalester led the way in total team blocks, sparked by
Regan Fruh who finished with eight.
The Scots will return to action tomorrow as they take on Augsburg College at 3 p.m. in the Leonard Center. Tomorrow's match will celebrate Dig Pink Day, where all proceeds collected will benefit the SideOut Foundation.
