ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Macalester College volleyball team competed in its second day of action at the St. Kate's Invite on Saturday. The Scots matched up against non-conference opponents Crown College and Luther College, defeating Crown in straight sets and dropping a four-set battle to the Norse.
With the split, Macalester moves to 14-11 overall this season and remain at 1-6 in conference action.
In Macalester's match-up with Crown, the Scots were victorious with set scores of 25-10, 25-11 and 25-15. Senior setter
Arianna Hesterberg finished with a season-high seven service aces in the match. Hesterberg leads the MIAC in aces, averaging .71 per set this season.
Regan Fruh led the offensive attack, finishing with eight kills and hitting .353. The Scots hit over .300 percentage points higher than Crown in the match.
Cora Trout led the way defensively, totaling 16 digs. First year,
Sofi Ascencio added 10.
The Scots started strong in their match-up with Luther College, defeating the Norse 25-21 in set one. Luther made a strong comeback, winning the next three successive sets: 25-10, 25-15 and 27-25.
Brooke Hunter collected 16 kills in the match,
Clara Baumann added 11.
Arianna Hesterberg added four more aces, finishing with 11 on the day. Hesterberg dished out 44 assists in the match.
Cora Trout collected 21 digs. Trout sits in 4th in the MIAC total digs standings this season.
Luther was led by Lexie Erickson who finished with 18 kills. Luther's offensive consistency projected them to the win, hitting over .300 for the match.
Brooke Hunter landed on the St. Kate's All-Tournament team, which was announced on Monday, Oct. 19. Hunter collected 43 kills in the tournament, averaging over three per set and hit an average of .281 in the four matches.
Macalester will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 21 when they host St. Kate's University in MIAC action at the Leonard Center. The first serve is slated for 7 p.m.
