ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Macalester College volleyball team competed in day one of action at the St. Kate's Invite on Friday. The Scots took on the University of Wisconsin-Superior and Wartburg College. Macalester fell to UW-Superior in straight sets and dropped a four-set match to Wartburg.
With the pair of losses, the Scots fall to 13-10 overall and remain at 1-6 in the MIAC. UW-Superior holds a 16-10 overall record. Wartburg improves to 19-3 overall this season.
The Scots will continue action at the St. Kate's Invite on Saturday as they take on Crown College and Luther College in back to back matches scheduled for 9 and 11 a.m.
In Macalester's match-up with UW-Superior,
Clara Baumann and
Brooke Hunter led the offensive force, each collecting nine kills.
Cora Trout led the way defensively, finishing with 20 digs.
Arianna Hesterberg dished out 24 assists and added three service aces.
The Scots couldn't find their stride in offensive consistency, hitting just .008 in the match.
Macalester battled back in their match-up against Wartburg, pushing the first set to a close score of 26-24. The Scots came back to win set two, 25-22 before dropping the final two sets (25-23 and 25-15).
Three Macalester players reached double-digit kill totals in the match. Hunter and Baumann each posted 12 kills, while
India Medaris finished with 11.
Arianna Hesterberg dished out 42 assists and added 14 digs.
Cora Trout finished with an impressive 41 digs in the four-set match.
Hoai-Nam Bui added 16.
