ST. PAUL, Minn. – A pair of goals by senior midfielder
Lydia Chodosh (Los Angeles, Calif./Culver City) lifted the Macalester College women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over visiting Saint Mary's in a MIAC game Tuesday evening at Macalester Stadium. With the win, the Scots improve to 5-2-4 overall and 3-1-3 in league play, while the Cardinals drop to 4-9, 2-5 MIAC.
After a slow first half in which neither team created any significant scoring chances, Macalester picked things up in the second half with 11 shots on goal. In the 55th minute, sophomore forward
Jaime Hasama (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Peninsula) sent a pass from the right to Chodosh, who scored her first goal of the season for a 1-0 lead. Then in the 74th minute, Chodosh blasted a shot off a pass from sophomore midfielder
Kelsey Porter (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville) into the net for an insurance goal.
For the game the Scots took 24 shots and put 14 on goal while holding the Cardinals to two shots, both off target. Saint Mary's goalkeeper Aubrie Cornell recorded 12 saves, including nine in the second half. Sophomore goalkeeper
Emma Toomer (Leesburg, Va./Loudon County) played in goal for Macalester and was not required to make a save.
The Scots travel to Northfield, Minn., to take on Carleton in another MIAC match. The game is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
