Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Cole Erickson scored on a header in the 77th minute and Macalester finished its sweep of two games in the Associated Colleges of the Midwest Showcase with a 1-0 win over Lake Forest.
The two teams played evenly throughout the match but the Scots got the only goal of the game when the Foresters were whistled for a foul near the end line and just left of the penalty box.
Kovas Zygas posted up in front of the net to create traffic in front of the Lake Forest goal and Alan Schembri-Wismay struck a free kick which Erickson was able to get his head on and score his first goal of the season.
The Scots then withstood several late chances as the Foresters had three corner kicks in the final minutes and Elyas Ingram's shot from 10 yards went wide with four seconds remaining on the clock.
The Scots held a 16-13 edge in shots and had a 9-5 margin in shots on goal, with
Zeke Vainer earning the shutout with five saves.
Macalester will take a 3-1-0 record into next weekend's game when the Scots will be on the road for the first time in 2014. They will face Wisconsin-Platteville at 5 p.m., Saturday, in Platteville, Wis., before heading to Decorah, Iowa, Sunday for a 4:30 p.m. affair with Luther.
