ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team welcomed #17 University of St. Thomas to the Leonard Center for a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) match-up this evening. Tonight marked the Scots conference home opener.
The Tommies took set one 25-9, but the Scots put up a fight in set two. After seven tied scores and three lead changes, Macalester fell in set two 25-20 and dropped the third set 25-20 again. In all, the Scots tied it up with the Tommies 15 times in the final two games.
Macalester moves to 7-9 overall and 0-2 in the MIAC. The number seventeen-ranked University of St. Thomas improves to 12-4 overall and 2-0 in conference action.

Clara Baumann each recorded six kills for the Scots. Baumann added six digs and
Cora Trout led the team with 10.
Samantha Bongiorno finished with 11 assists.
Arianna Hesterberg added nine.
The St. Thomas pair of Jill Greenfield and Maddie Reece were awarded this week's MIAC hitter and setter of the week. They continued to display strong play tonight as Greenfield posted 11 kills and Reece added 24 assists. Kelly Foley led the Tommies with 13 kills.
The Scots will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 27 as they travel to Winona, Minn. to take on St. Mary's University in a conference match-up. Macalester will compete in three additional away games before returning home on Oct. 8 for a MIAC match-up vs. Hamline University.
