Box Score 2 Macalester scored six runs in the sixth inning of Game 2 to erase a 3-2 deficit and earn a split with Concordia-Moorhead in the West St. Paul Dome on Monday afternoon. The Scots went on to win the nightcap 8-3, while the Cobbers defeated the Scots in the first game 3-0. The games were moved indoors due to the weather conditions that made the Scots home field unplayable.
In the second game,
Miranda Stokes (Jr., Perry, Utah / Box Elder) had a 2-RBI double and
Cleo Nagy (Sr., Eugene, Ore. / Henry D. Sheldon) followed with a 2-RBI single in the Scots' six-run sixth inning to help Macalester overcome a one-run deficit. The Cobbers had scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 3-2 lead. The Scots tallied single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to initially jump out to a 2-0 lead.
Abby Cox (So., Fort Worth, Tex. / Fort Worth Country Day) scored on a throwing error by the Cobbers to open the scoring, while Stokes doubled in
Hali Englert (Jr., Castle Rock, Colo. / Castle View) in the next inning to for the second run.
Stokes had three RBI in the game, as well as picking up the win in the circle, after relieving
Brittany Ehmann (Jr., Island Lake, Ill. / Wauconda) in the Cobbers' three-run sixth inning. Ehmann had shut out the Cobbers through the first five innings, but ran in to control problems in the sixth inning and was relieved by Stokes, who thwarted the Cobbers' threat, setting up the Scots six-run inning to gain the victory.
Paige Beseman hit a 3-run home run for Concordia-Moorhead in Game 1 and pitcher Hilary Rotunda made it stand up for a 3-0 victory. The Scots had 8 hits, led by Englert and Cox with two each. Macalester had a base runner in every inning but the fifth, but hit in to three double plays and also had a runner thrown out at the plate. The Cobbers had just six hits, but the home run by Beseman was enough to hold on for the win.
With the split, the Scots now stand at 20-18 overall and an 8-12 MIAC record. They will play Tuesday, April 29 at the Rosemount Dome again the Bethel Royals in a MIAC doubleheader with the first game scheduled to be played at 6:30 p.m.
