Softball: Cardinals drop Scots in doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Scots were swept by St. Mary's on Sunday afternoon at the Rosemount Dome in Vadnais Heights by scores of 6-0 and 3-2. The losses snap a four-game winning streak for the Scots and drop the team to 19-17 overall and a 7-11 record in conference play.

After scoring 22 runs on 24 hits in their previous doubleheader against St. Catherine, the Scots bats went cold in the first game of the twin-bill. They collected only two hits and managed only three total base runners in the opening contest. St. Mary's starter Ashley Betzold tossed a complete game with ten strikeouts to pick up the victory for the Cardinals.

Starter Miranda Stokes (Perry, Utah / Box Elder) picked up the loss for the Scots and falls to 4-6 on the season. She pitched only two innings and gave up three earned runs, while striking out one Cardinal.

The Scots were again perplexed by Betzold again in the nightcap. They were finally able to manage a pair of runs off of the Cardinal ace in the fifth inning after Abby Cox (Fort Worth, Tex. / Fort Worth Country Day) and Cleo Nagy (Eugene, Ore. / Henry D. Sheldon) knocked back-to-back RBI-singles to give the Scots a 2-1 lead. However, Betzold again hurt the Scots, this time with her bat. She delivered with a 2-RBI single in the bottom of the 5th to give the Cardinals a 3-2 lead. She allowed only one more baserunner the rest of the game to seal the sweep.

The doubleheader was originally rescheduled from April 13 due to weather concerns.

The Scots are back in action Monday afternoon at the West Saint Paul Dome versus Concordia-Morehead. Their following contest at Bethel has also been rescheduled due to weather and will now be held Tuesday afternoon at the Rosemount Dome.
