Softball: Scots fall in Northfield

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Macalester softball team lost two heartbreakers against St. Olaf on Tuesday afternoon, the first game by a score of 7-6, and the nightcap in a 9-7 decision. The Scots will drop to 15-15 overall and 5-9 in MIAC play.

In Game One, the Scots jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after a Cleo Nagy (Eugene, Ore. / Henry D. Sheldon) RBI double and a Brittney Ehman (Island Lake, Ill. / Wauconda) RBI groundout.  Miranda Stokes (Perry, Utah / Box Elder) led the Scots with a three for four effort and two doubles. Nagy also added two doubles, while Abby Cox (Fort Worth, Tex. / Fort Worth Country Day) and Hali Englert (Castle Rock, Colo. / Castle View) both homered in the third and fourth inning respectively.

The Scots took a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the sixth but allowed three runs in the Ole half of the inning. The Scots tallied two more runs to tie the game in the seventh, but Becca Walz delivered with an RBI single in the bottom half to give the Oles the victory in walk-off fashion.

The Scots again jumped out early in the second game with a Nagy RBI single in the first inning to score Maddy Jasper (Corona, Calif. / Santiago). The Scots put up two more runs in the third and four in the fourth to give the team a 5-3 lead after five innings. However, a six-run fifth inning doomed the Scots as they dropped their eighth consecutive conference game. Saraswati Wilson (Olathe, Kan. / Olathe Northwest) and Abby Cox each collected two hits in a double in the second game.

The Scots will host Northwestern later this afternoon in a doubleheader, with the Game One beginning at 4:30 p.m. They will then host Strike out Heart Disease this Friday afternoon when they take on St. Catherine.
