Box Score 2 Amidst rainy weather conditions, the Macalester softball team swept the doubleheader against Northwestern (Minn.) to improve to 17-15 overall on the season. The Scots picked up an 8-0 shutout win in the first game and then recorded a 13-12 walk-off victory in the following contest.
In Game One, the Scots were put on the board by a
Miranda Stokes (Perry, Utah / Box Elder) third inning grand slam. The Scots piled on two more runs to end the third with a 6-0 lead. They then tacked on two more in the fifth inning after RBI singles by
Saraswati Wilson (Jr., Olathe, Kan. / Olathe Northwest) and
Anna Munson (Jr., LaCrosse, Wis. / Central) to seal the Scots 8-0 victory by run-rule; both players also each contributed with three-hit efforts.
Stokes also pitched three innings and allowed only two hits, while also striking out four batters on the season.
In Game Two, Macalester took a 9-5 lead after five innings, but a seven-run Northwestern sixth inning broke the game open and allowed the Eagles to take a 12-9 lead. However, a late Scots rally in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the Scots the sweep. Wilson's 2-RBI double in the bottom of the seventh was her second walk-off hit of the afternoon.
Wilson and Stokes each recorded 4 RBI in the nightcap.
Stokes also picked up the win in Game Two to improve to 4-3 on the season. She started the game and pitched three innings before coming on again in relief in the sixth inning. She struck out seven Eagle hitters and allowed only three earned runs.
