Softball: Macalester drops pair to Hamline

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
The Hamline Pipers made the short trip down Snelling Ave. and returned with a sweep over the Scots in a Saturday MIAC twinbill.  Hamline plated five runs in the top of the eighth inning to complete the sweep after claiming the opener by a 12-6 tally.  Hamline moves forward to 9-11-1 overall and is 4-3 in the MIAC, while Macalester drops to 15-10 overall and 5-5 in the MIAC.

Saturday's first game – and the home opener after having two doubleheaders moved to the Macalester Stadium field – was a back-and-forth affair.  Hamline opened with three runs in the first and another in the second, only to have Macalester score one in the second and three to tie it up in the third.  Each time scored one more run until Hamline's five-run eighth knocked the home team out.  Anna Munson (Jr., La Crosse, Wis. / Central) went 3-for-4 and Miranda Stokes (Jr., Perry, Utah / Box Elder) homered.

Stokes and Cleo Nagy (Eugene, Ore. / Henry D. Sheldon) blasted back-to-back home runs in the third inning of the nightcap to help the Scots begin a comeback from an early 7-1 deficit, and to give Stokes round-trippers in each game.  Hali Englert (Jr., Castle Rock, Colo. / Castle View) went 3-for-3 in the game, while adding two hits apiece were Munson, Stokes and Nagy, who increases her career school-record home run total to 21.

The Scots are scheduled to play Sunday (April 13) at St. Mary's.
