Macalester picked up its second doubleheader sweep in as many days in a twinbill moved to the Macalester Stadium game field, this time holding off Northland (Wis.) for 12-5 and 8-7 (extra innings) triumps and a 12-6 overall record on the season. One day earlier, Mac swept St. Ben's to begin conference play on a winning note.
The Scots crossed the play four times in each of the first two frames in the opening game, and pulled away after the LuberJills cut the lead to 8-5 in the fourth.
Macalester pounded out 16 hits in game one, including three by
Saraswati Wilson (Jr., Olathe, Kan. / Northwest) and two each by
Abby Cox (So., Fort Worth, Tex. / Fort Worth Country Day),
Cleo Nagy (Sr., Eugene, Ore. / Henry D. Sheldon),
Brittany Ehmann (Jr., Island Lake, Ill. / Wauconda),
Hali Englert (Jr., Castle Rock, Colo. / Castle View),
Alisha Barritt (Sr., Oklahoma City, Okla. / Oklahoma School of Science & Math) and
Anna Munson (Jr., La Crosse, Wis. / Central). Nagy had four RBI to help overcome three Northland home runs.
The Scots led 5-0 through the first five innings of the second game, behind the pitching of
Miranda Stokes (Jr., Perry, Utah / Box Elder), before Northland got back into it and forced extra innings with four in the six and three more in the top of the seventh.
Mac plated its seventh inning walkoff when
Maddy Jasper (Jr., Corona, Calif. / Santiago) led off with a bunt single and tallied the game-winning on a Wilson bunt single.
The Scots play Tuesday (April 1) at Bethel as the team returns to MIAC play.
