ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team spent their afternoon at St. Catherine University where they took on the Wildcats in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play at 3 p.m. The Scots fell to St. Kate's in a tough four-set battle, dropping the first set and coming back to win set two before being retired in sets three and four. Final set scores came in at 25-19, 18-25, 25-12 and 28-26.
20 tied scores and seven lead changes made for a hard-fought loss for the Scots. Poor hitting percentages in sets one and three allowed the Wildcats to secure the win.
The Scots were unable to grab their first conference win of the season, falling to 8-18 overall and 0-9 in the MIAC. St. Kate's improved to 10-15 overall and 1-8 in conference action.
Brooke Hunter and
Regan Fruh led the offensive attack for Macalester. Hunter finished with nine kills in the match and recorded three service aces. Fruh totaled eight kills on the day and added three block assists.
Clara Baumann finished with 15 digs in the match and also added five kills for the Scots. Libero
Cora Trout produced a team-high 21 digs.
Arianna Hesterberg dished out 28 assists in the match.
Megan Lindenfelser led the Wildcats with a double-double, recording 16 kills and a .452 hitting percentage, while adding in 11 digs.
Macalester College will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 29 as they host Concordia College in their final home game of the season at 7 p.m. in the Leonard Center.
