Men's Soccer: Macalester earns 1-0 road victory over UW-Superior.

Erickson's goal is the difference in Scots' win.

SUPERIOR, Wis. -- Cole Erickson scored at the 26-minute mark and Zeke Vainer posted his third consecutive shutout at Macalester defeated UW-Superior, 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Cole Erickson scored his third goal of the season, and his second game winner, at 26:01 off a feed from Alan Schembri-Wismayer.
Zeke Vainer made four saves to record his third consecutive shutout.

NOTES
• Both teams were ranked in the region by the NSCAA this week. UW-Superior was 10th while Macalester was ninth.
• Vainer's eighth shutout of the season and extended his consecutive shutout streak to 323 minutes, 59 seconds.
• UWS had a 14-6 advantage in shots but the teams were tied with four shots on goal apiece.
• After being 3-3-1 at one point this season, Macalester has gone 6-2-1 in its last 10 games.
• With Saturday's win, the Scots have guaranteed themselves a winning record for the first time in head coach Gregg Olson's three-year tenure.
• Macalester used 21 players in the field.
• There were 25 fouls in the game, 15 on the Yellowjackets in addition to their five yellow cards.


HEAD COACH GREGG OLSON'S COMMENTS
• On the victory: "This was another gritty win. It was a very physical game and the guys responded well. They kept their heads and continued to play."
• On using his team's depth: "We played 21 field players and rotated through our depth. It was crucial to get some minutes for our starters and to give time to some of our players who have worked hard all year but haven't been rewarded with much time."
• On the time of Erickson's goal: "Cole's goal was at a perfect time in the game. It took the wind out of the game at a time was really hot."


THE HOME STRETCH
• Now fifth in the MIAC standings, the Scots will play their final two conference games of the season at home this coming week.
• The Scots trailed Saint John's by two in the standings for the final first-round home seed in the MIAC playoffs. They lead Bethel, on which they have a game in hand, by one point, St. Thomasy by two and Augsburg by three.

UP NEXT
• Macalester closes the regular-season with a pair of MIAC games at home this week. First, is a 7:30 p.m. game, Tuesday, Oct. 28, versus Concordia, followed by a 7:30 p.m. match, Saturday, Nov. 1, versus St. Mary's.
