ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team hosted St. Olaf College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match-up at the Leonard Center Wednesday evening. The Oles took down the Scots 3-0 (25-22, 27-25 and 25-11).
The match kicked off in an intense fashion as Macalester fought back to tie up set one 22-22 before falling 22-25. The battle continued in set two when the Scots took a 24-23 lead before eventually going down 25-27. Macalester appeared to run out of steam after dropping two close ones, allowing St. Olaf to breeze through the third set with a 25-11 victory.
Clara Baumann led the Scots with a season-high 15 kills. Baumann hit .343 on the night and also added six digs.
Regan Fruh and
Brooke Hunter rounded out the offensive effort for the Scots, contributing six and five kills respectively. Hunter added in nine digs in the match.
Arianna Hesterberg recorded 21 assists for the Scots, followed by
Samantha Bongiorno with eight.
Libero,
Cora Trout, led the defensive effort with 17 digs.
The Scots' errors ultimately effected tonight's outcome, as Macalester suffered 21 attack errors in the match to St. Olaf's 12.
Devon Flohrs led St. Olaf with 12 kills.
