ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team matched-up against Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Friday evening in the Leonard Center. The Scots fell in three sets to the Gusties (25-21, 25-14 and 25-19).
The Scots fall to 8-14 overall and 0-6 in the MIAC. Gustavus improves to 9-10 overall and are now 4-2 in conference action. Prior to tonight's match, the Gusties came back to defeat St. Olaf in a five-set battle on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
Macalester celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness in their annual Dig Pink event this evening. All donations received at the event went toward the Side-Out Foundation. Donations can still be accepted online at

The Scots were able to keep the match interesting, taking the lead twice in both the first and second sets.
Freshman outside hitter
Clara Baumann led Macalester with eight kills in the match, hitting .269 on the night. Baumann added seven digs.
Lynn Zemaitis and
Brooke Hunter each added five kills for the Scots. Hunter additionally recorded three service aces and five digs.
Junior libero
Cora Trout was all over the court – finishing with a team-high 17 digs.
Samantha Bongiorno collected 12 assists, while
Arianna Hesterberg added eight.
Becca Woodstra led Gustavus with 10 kills. The Gusties hit .165 in the match, but the Scots fell under the 100 mark, hitting .073.
Macalester will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 15 as they host St. Olaf College in intercollegiate conference play at 7 p.m. in the Leonard Center.
