ARDEN HILLS, Minn. -- The Macalester College
volleyball team traveled to Bethel University in Arden Hills, Minn. to compete in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) match-up this evening. The Scots started out in control, winning set one 25-21 before dropping the next three sets (15-25, 18-25 and 15-25).
Macalester falls to 7-11 overall in the 2014 season and 0-4 in the MIAC. Bethel improves to 13-5 this season and grabbed their first conference win this evening to stand at 3-1 on the year.
Clara Baumann and
Brooke Hunter led the Scots offensively in the match, each posting eight kills on the night. Hunter also added ten digs for the Scots.
Junior libero
Cora Trout finished with a team-high 22 digs.
Samantha Bongiorno added 21 assists and four kills from the setter position.
The Scots hit just .139 as a team, while the Royals finished with a .286 attack average. Bethel had 10 total blocks on the night to the Scots' two.
Carlee Hoppe led the Royals with an 18 kill, 10 dig and .351 hitting percentage performance.
Macalester will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 4 as they travel to the University of Northwestern in Roseville for a three-team triangular to face both Bethany Lutheran and Northwestern.
