Box Score
Dubuque's first half goal appeared as though it could stand up but host-Macalester stunned the Spartans with a pair of late goals, scoring in the 84th minute off a corner kick and again in the 88th minute to avoid overtime.
The Scots are 5-0-1 over their past six matches, allowing just two goals in the process and are now 5-3-1 on the season.
Dubuque took control with the game's first score in the 14th minute and hung in there despite going out-shot by the Scots 17-7 overall and 6-1 in attempts on goal.
Cole Erickson (Jr., Bloomington, Minn. / Jefferson) headed in a
Robert Tomecek (Fy., Lisle, Ill. / Benet Academy) corner kick at 83:48 and just like that, the tally was knotted at 1-1. Erickson, who registered his first career goal to give Macalester a tie with St. Thomas in the MIAC opener last week.
With overtime appearing likely, Macalester continued its late-game heroics when
Jac Carlson (So., Clive, Ia. / Waukee Community) launched a bomb from over 40 yards and it got past the Dubuque keeper for the game-winner. This was Carlson's first career score at Mac.
Goalkeeper
Noah Schoenberg (So., Bala Cynwyd, Pa. / Friends' Central) gains his first collegiate win.
The Scots look to keep their roll going Saturday (Sept. 28) when they host Augsburg in an MIAC match at 7:30 p.m.
