In an MIAC doubleheader scheduled for Monday afternoon in Northfield but moved to St. Paul due to wet field conditions, the Scots suffered a pair of defeats to Carleton, dropping the opener 9-1 and losing 8-4 in game two.
Macalester is now 2-2 in the MIAC and 10-12 overall, while the Knights advance to 5-1 in the league to take over second place, and 10-9 overall.
The Scots were held to a lone hit in the opening game until
Saraswati Wilson (So., Olathe, Kan. / Northwest) collected her second single of the game in the top of the sixth. Wilson came around to score on a
Cleo Nagy (Jr., Eugene, Ore. / Henry D. Sheldon) single was Macalester avoided the shutout.
In game two, Mac responded to a Carleton run in the top of the third with two runs of its own in the bottom of the third to take its first lead on the twinbill at 2-1. However, the Knights plated four runs in their half of the fourth inning. Each team collected nine hits, but Macalester left 11 runners on base.
Nagy was 3-for-4 with a couple runs scored and an RBI, while
Anna Munson (So., La Crosse, Wis. / Central) went 2-for-4.
Macalester is slated to host Gustavus on Wednesday (April 10). Expected foul weather conditions could push the doubleheader back to Friday (April 12).
