Macalester and Bethel hooked up Friday night at the Irish Sports Dome in Rosemount and it was the Bethel Royals going away with a 10-2 and 9-6 MIAC sweep over the Scots.
The Scots drop to 11-15 on the season and 3-5 in the MIAC, while BU improves to 15-11 overall, 6-4 in the MIAC. This was the first of eight MIAC doubleheaders over the next 12 days.
Bethel led 4-2 in the opening contest before putting things away with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Macalester's
Alisha Barritt (Jr., Oklahoma City, Okla. / Bethany) went 2-for-2 2 and
Abby Cox (Fy., Fort Worth, Tex. / Fort Worth Country Day)drove in both her team's runs with her first career home run in the fifth.
Macalester played better in the nightcap and led 3-2 on a solo
Brittany Ehmann (So., Island Lake, Ill. / Wauconda) homer in the second and two-run shot by
Saraswati Wilson (So., Olathe, Neb. / Northwest) in the fifth. The Royals responded to Wilson's homer by scoring seven times in the bottom of the fifth frame to go up 8-3. Mac made it 8-6 with three six inning runs, but could get no closer. Wilson was 3-for-4 with three RBI on the game to boost her team-leading batting average to .430. Adding two hits apiece were Ehmann, Cox and
Hali Englert (So., Castle Rock, Colo. / Castle View).
The Scots play Sunday night (April 21) at 8 p.m. against St. Benedict at the Rosemount Dome and on Tuesday (April 23) play at home against Gustavus at 5 p.m..
