The Scots met Hamline for the 114th time Saturday at Macalester Stadium and it was the Macalester defense leading the way to a 7-0 shutout victory in the season-finale. The Scots picked off five passes and close out the campaign at 4-6.
Jole Miller (Jr., Missouri Valley, Ia.) and
Bolton Howes (Jr., Lakewood, Colo. / Dakota Ridge) each accounted for two interceptions for the Scots, with Miller's first setting up the only score of the game, a 7-yard scoring strike from
Samson Bialostok (Jr., North Woodmere, N.Y. / Lawrence) to
John Johnson (Sr., McKenzie, Tenn.) to cap a 30-yard drive. Johnson led the Scots with five catches for 44 yards and finishes the year as Mac's top receiver with 39 catches for 487 yards.
Hamline's Austin Duncan carried the ball 37 times for 158 yards. The Pipers close out at 2-8.
Macalester's tackle leaders on the day were
Ryan Fleming with 15 tackles. Miller and
Adam Ward were each in on nine stops.
This was Macalester's third straight win over Hamline in the battle for the Paint Bucket Trophy. Macalester finishes 4-6, Hamline closes out at 2-8.
