Returning to the court for the first time in over three weeks, the Scots led Hamline at halftime, but the Pipers controlled the second half to topple Macalester 70-52 at HU's Hutton Arena. Macalester drops to 4-5 on the season and is at .500 in the league with a 3-3 MIAC mark, while Hamline moves up to 3-6 overall, 3-3 in MIAC play.
Veronika Jakubovie (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) made her former teammates work hard for the win. The transfer from Hamline, Jakubovie made nine of her 15 shots and finished with 20 points and 13 rebounds for her first double-double at Mac. She helped the Scots post a 14-5 advantage on the offensive glass.
Erin Murray (Fy., Sparta, Wis.) joined Jakubovie in double figures with 11 points.
Emma Leyden (Jr., Berkeley, Calif. / Head-Royce) had three assists and a couple steals.
Macalester led 13-12 midway into the first half and didn't give up the lead until the Pipers tied the game at 32-32 five minutes into the second half. Hamline netted the next bucket and led from that point on.
Hamline had a 21-12 turnover advantage and held Macalester to a 30% shooting mark. The Pipers led 21-6 in points off turnovers. Jordan Sammons led HU with 25 points and 10 boards, while Steph Pilgrim added 17 points. Ja' Naya Brown collected six steals.
Macalester is back in action Saturday (Jan. 5) at Concordia-Moorhead.
