Macalester junior
Renee Jordan (Anchorage, Alaska / Steller Secondary School) has been selected as Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC)
women's swimming and diving Athlete of the Week after leading the way for the Scots last Saturday (Jan. 12) in a double dual with St. Olaf and Augsburg.
The junior won both diving events - meeting the NCAA qualifying standard on the 1-meter board - and also made big contributions to first- and second-place relay teams as Macalester fell to the Oles, but cruised to a win over Augsburg. For her tremendous, versatile performance, Jordan was named the MIAC Women's Swimming and Diving Athlete-of-the-Week.
Jordan swept the 1-meter and 3-meter diving titles at Saturday's triangular meet. She scored a 242.30 to claim the 3-meter title, and her score of 260.65 on the 1-meter board was good for first place, and a qualifying score for the NCAA Championships. In addition, Jordan's 50-yard butterfly split of 26.16 was the fastest in the meet and helped the Scots finish second in the 200-yard medley relay. She added a 50-yard freestyle split of 26.09 in the 200-yard freestyle relay, which Macalester won. This season, Jordan has the MIAC's top score on the 1-meter board, and ranks third on the 3-meter.
The Scots and Jordan will be back in the pool to hopefully build on Saturday's strong performances this coming weekend with a trip to Iowa. Macalester will compete in the two-day Grinnell Invitational in Grinnell, Iowa, Friday and Saturday.
