Macalester won two of its four matches Friday and Saturday at the California Lutheran Fornia Invitational, a 16-team event, in Thousand Oaks, Calif.

The Scots, now 5-5 after playing 10 matches over the season's first nine days, defeated Mills (Calif.) 3-0 before losing Friday to Redlands (Calif.) 3-0.  On Saturday, Macalester beat Wesley (Del.) 3-0 and lost to Pomona-Pitzer (Calif.) 3-1.

Macalester sweep over Mills came by scores of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-13.  Laura Avena (Jr., Cesis, Latvia / Riga Gimnasium #1) hammered 17 digs and hit .417 to lead the attack.  She also served five aces.  Mac's win over Wesley came by scores of 25-13, 25-14 and 25-12 as Anna Munson (So., La Crosse, Wis. / Central) distributed 17 assists, while Avena had 16 kills and 17 digs.  The Scots hit .404 in the Mills match and .304 against Wesley.

For the weekend, Glasha Marcon (Sr., Richmond, Calif. / Albany) led the team with 4.1 digs per set and was tied for the team lead with eight aces.   Avena led the Scots with 3.5 kills per set while hitting .333.  She also served eight aces and was second on the squad with 3.6 digs/set.

Hannah Rehak (So., Chicago, Ill. / Walter Payton College Prep) spiked 22 kills and Anna Trier (Sr., Sun Prairie, Wis.) added 21, while Rehak led Mac with 11 blocks.  Kasey McMaster (Fy., Oak Ridge, Tenn.) provided 46 set assists over the weekend and Munson added 39.

Following 10 non-conference matches, Macalester gets its MIAC season underway Wednesday (Sept. 12) when it plays host to St. Mary's at 7:30 p.m.
