Macalester surrendered the tying goal in the closing seconds of regulation Saturday at Hamline, but received an “own goal” 4:07 into overtime to escape with a dramatic 4-3 triumph over the Pipers.
Hamline led 2-0 at halftime before Macalester took charge, tying the match with early second half scores by
Georgia Cloepfil (Jr., Portland, Ore. / Lincoln), her eighth of the year, and
Emily Humphreys (Sr., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial), her first of the season.
Izzi Speer (Jr., Madison, Wis. / West) assisted on both goals, while Cloepfil assisted on the Humphreys tally.
The match remained tied until
Lydia Chodosh (Fy., Los Angeles, Calif. / Culver City) scored her second goal of the season from in close off an assist from Cloepfil.
Hamline's Jordan Sammons spoiled the day for the Scots, at least for a while, when she scored at 89:59 to send the match into overtime.
The Scots, who are 22-0 all-time against Hamline, have won two straight and are 5-3 on the season, 2-1 in the MIAC. Hamline drops to 5-2-1 overall, 0-2-1 in MIAC play.
Macalester plays Wednesday (Sept. 26) at Carleton.
