Box Score
The Scots received goals from five different players to coast past visiting Augsburg 5-0 on a windy night at Macalester Stadium. Macalester gets its first MIAC win and improves to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in league play. The Auggies drop to 5-2 on the year, 1-1 in the MIAC.
This is Macalester's second 5-0 win of the season and first five-goal match in MIAC play since a 5-1 decision over Hamline in 2007. It is Macalester biggest conference shutout victory since a 5-0 win over St. Catherine in 2006.
Macalester picked up first half goals from
Lydia Chodosh (Fy., Los Angeles, Calif. / Culver City),
Zoe Chrisman-Miller (Fy., Portland, Ore. / Franklin) and
Georgia Cloepfil (Jr., Portland, Ore. / Lincoln). For Chodish and Chrisman-Miller, it was their first collegiate goals. For Cloepfil, it was her team-leading seventh of the season.
Hannah Walker (So., Falls Church, Va. / George Mason) and
Bonnie Gale (So., Anchorage, Alaska / South Anchorage) capped off the scoring with second half scores.
Cloepfil assisted on Mac's first two goals and
Izzi Speer (Jr., Madison, Wis. / West) picked up assists on the team's final three scores.
"We did a terrific job of taking advantage of the opportunities we created tonight," commented head coach
Michele Cornish. "Five different players scored goals which is something that we can be very proud of. They worked really hard on defense (as a team) and maintained their shape front to back. They found each other with good passing, and runs off of the ball.. which ultimately unbalanced the Augsburg defense. It was a wonderful evening for Macalester."
Macalester plays its next three matches – all MIAC events – on the road, beginning with a contest Saturday (Sept. 22) at Hamline.
