Mac topples No. 21 UW-Whitewater

The Scots handed new head coach Michele Cornish her first victory at Macalester, scoring in the 39th minute and going on to knock off Wisconsin-Whitewater, the No. 21 ranked team in the D3soccer.com national poll.  The match was played at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth.  Whitewater advanced the to Sweet 16 of last year's NCAA playoffs.

Georgia Cloepfil (Jr., Portland, Ore. / Lincoln) netted the only tally of the match and goalkeeper Ellen Palmquist (Jr., Fort Collins, Colo. / Poudre) registered three stops as Macalester evens it record at 1-1 on the season.

Macalester out-shot Whitewater 17-7, including 8-4 in shots on goal.

A pair of Scots were named to the Advantage Emblem Cup all-tournament team: midfielder Bonnie Bentson (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest) and defender Margaret Nemetz (So., Ann Arbor, Mich. / Pioneer).

The Scots play a pair of matches next weekend (Sept. 8-9) in Decorah, Ia., taking on Nebraska Wesleyan Saturday and Luther (Ia.) Sunday.
